  General English Program - GE

 

The AICL General English Program is mainly designed for people who are learning English for general, practical, or cultural purposes. It is also being used as a preparatory language course for AICL students who have not reached a language level sufficient to enrol in any of the AICL English for special purposes courses. The General English Program uses predominantly British English, but also incorporates Australian and American English as well.

The AICL General English Program consists of a number of different components

 

Core Lessons Grammar, Fluency Presentation, Vocabulary and Pronunciation
Skills Lessons Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking
Choices of Electives / Self-Activities Conversation, Computer Studies, Listening Lab, Social Clubs, Weekly Sport, and Weekly Special Class such as Business English, Australian Customs & Idioms, Drama, Literature & Stories and Media Studies.
 

The AICL General English Program has seven different levels on offer.

 

Beginner Students learn basic English language forms and their uses.
Elementary Students learn to understand and produce English to handle a variety of everyday situations and topics.
Pre Intermediate Students who have already gained basic English skills and need practice to gain fluency.
Intermediate Students are exposed to new angles on familiar areas and are encouraged to explore their own experiences and make contrasts with their own and other cultures.
Upper Intermediate Students learn many abstract concepts and structures, which help them, express 'grey-area' concepts.
Advanced Students learn to analyse systems of language, and are encouraged to express various opinions and recognize the degrees and fine-lines expressed through language.
