Qustion How do I apply for a Student Visa and what are the procedures for enrolling?

A student visa is required for international students who intend to enroll in a registered, full-time course in Australia for period of study greater than 3 months.

 

The enrolment procedure varies according to your nationality, your major course of study, and whether you are applying from within or outside Australia. Click here to know more details on the AICL Enrolment Procedure.

 

The Department of Immigration and Citizenship Form1160i provides necessary student visa application information.

Qustion Can I apply for a student visa after arriving in Australia?

No. You can only apply for a student visa from within Australia only if you are are already legally in Australia on another visa and you are subject to country assessment level 1. Check your country assessment level from Form1219i.

We advise that you familiarise yourself with the details on some requirements and procedures you need to know to apply for a student visa. Use Form157A to lodge a student visa application.

If you are from a country with an assessment level other than 1, you must apply from outside Australia using Form157A unless you are under exceptional circumstances.

 

 

 

 

Qustion Can I work while studying?

YYou are able to work in Australia part time whilst studying. During school terms, you are permitted to work up to 20 hours per week. During school holidays, you are allowed to work full time. Once you have commenced the course you can start working. If your visa has “no work” clause consult student affairs department who will assist you on how to apply for work permit.

Qustion How much do I need to live in Australia?

Australia is cheaper to live in compared to other more popular study destinations such as England and America. It is estimated that living costs are $AUD 12000 per year. Qustion How do I get permanent residency in Australia?

The Department of Immigration and Citizenship is the government arm which issues permanent residency to applicants. The criteria for granting permanent residency are many and varied, but your chances for approval are enhanced if you have a high level of education and training. Qustion How can I extend my student visa?

To extend your visa you will need to fill out Form157P either manually or electronically, and lodge your visa extension application in Australia before your current student visa expires. Certain requirements must be satisfied before extension is granted. These requirements are mentioned in the form.
