Who needs to apply for a student (temporary) visa?

* Those who intend to study in Australia for more than 3 months, and
* Not an Australian resident, and
* Intend to enroll in a full-time course offered by any Australian education and training institution registered with the Australian government.

 

AICL is a Registered Training Organisation and our courses are accredited and recognized by all relevant government bodies.

 

The visa application procedure varies according to the student's nationality, the student's principal course of study, and whether or not the student is applying from within Australia or from overseas.

Where you apply for a Student Visa?

* You can apply for a student visa within Australia if you are already legally in Australia on another visa and are subject to country assessment level 1. We advise that you familiarise yourself with the details on some requirements and procedure you need to know to apply for a student visa. Use Form157A to lodge your student visa application.
* If you are from a country with an assessment level other than 1, you must apply from outside Australia using Form157A unless you are under exceptional circumstances.

 

Student Visa Requirements

The Department of Immigration and Citizenship Form 1160i provides information on student visa application including student visa requirements and conditions.

 

Work Permission

You are able to work in Australia part time whilst studying. The Department of Immigration and Citizenship provides information on "What you should know about working while studying".

 

* You are permitted to work up to 20 hours per week during school terms, and full time during school holidays.

 

General Procedure of Student Visa Application for Country Assessment Levels 1 & 2

  • 1. Fill out enrolment form and send to AICL along with copy of passport, copy of certificate from previous studies undertaken, English proficiency certificate (IELTS test preferred), and enrolment fee.

  • 2. AICL sends you a Letter of Offer and an Invoice (if you require one).

  • 3. Pay course fees and health cover shown on the letter of offer to AICL Bank Account.

  • 4. Receive an Electronic Conformation of Enrolment (eCoE) and receipt from AICL.

  • 5. Undergo medical examination.

  • 6. Take the following with you to the Australian Embassy to apply for student visa
    o Completed relevant parts of Student Visa Application Form
    o The electronic Conformation of Enrolment (eCoE)
    o Supporting documentation specified in the visa application booklet such as: (a) Evidence of previous studies undertaken; (b) Evidence that you have enough funds ($12,000 per year living costs); (c) English Proficiency certificate and Passport and 4 recent passport photographs
    o Student Visa Application Fee

  • 7. Await visa approval.

 

 

General Procedure of Student Visa Application for Country Assessment Levels 3 & 4

1. Fill out enrolment form and send to AICL with copy of passport, copy of certificate from previous studies undertaken, English proficiency certificate (IELTS test preferred) and enrolment fee.

2. Receive a Letter of Offer and an Invoice (if you require one).

3. Take the following with you to Australian Embassy to apply for Pre-Visa Assessment (PVA)
o Completed relevant parts of Student Visa Application Form
o Letter of Offer
o Supporting documentation specified in the visa application booklet: (a) Evidence of previous studies undertaken, (b) Evidence that you have enough funds ($12,000 per year living costs), (c) English Proficiency certificate (IELTS Test Results), and (d) Passport and 4 recent passport photographs
o Student Visa Application Fee

4. On successful Pre-Visa Assessment, receive a PVA approval letter to give to your education provider authorising them to issue you with an eCoE.

5. Undergo medical examination.

6. Pay course fee and health cover shown on the letter of offer to AICL Bank Account.

7. Provide AICL the PVA letter.

8. Receive the Electronic Conformation of Enrolment (eCoE) and receipt from AICL.

9. Send the eCoE and payment receipt to Australian embassy.

10. Await visa approval.
